Built in 1394 by Yildirim Bayezit and widened up during the reign of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, the Anatolian Fortress is the oldest Turkish construction work in Istanbul. It gives its name to the neighboring district as well. The fortress situated at the narrowest point on the Bosphorus aims to control passing boats. It is also known as Güzelce Fortress and Yenice Fortress. It is situated just opposite to Rumeli Fortress. Turned into a museum after Republican period, the fortress is in display in Miniaturk as it used to look before the road passed through it. |
