Artemision

Artemission is in town of Selcuk in Izmir by the ancient city of Ephesus. It is dated between the years 334 and 320. The temple that is also known as Artemision is among the seven wonders of the ancient world. When the first temple that was built in 560 B. C. has burnt down, a new temple of the same size is built but this time 3 metres higher. This temple is the greatest temple among other temples built during the Hellenistic period. It has never been restored after 262 when it had been demolished by Goth people. All temple ruins and findings excavated by the end of 19th century on behalf of British Museum had been taken away to England. The remaining pit from the temple is known as British pit today.
