Ulu Mosque is the biggest mosque of Bursa and had been opened to public for praying in 1400. It was built by Yildmm Bayezid after the victory he won in Nigbolu using the war revenues as a present for the public. When Timur the Lame had conquered Bursa, he used this mosque as a bam and had it burnt on leaving the city. The minaret placed in northeast direction had been added in Mehmed 1st period during the maintenance of the mosque. Siileyman Łelebi, writer of Mevlid has worked in this mosque as an imam all his lifetime. The mosque is famous with its engraved oak mimbar and calligraphic inscriptions. |
