Isa Bey Mosque is placed in Selcuk between the temple of Artemis and Saint Jean Church. It was built in 1375 by orders of Aydinoglu isa Bey by Architect AH of Damascus. It is one of the oldest and imposing works of Turkish architectural history built during Anatolian Beylik period. It has also been used as a caravanserai in 19th century. It is built with an asymmetric plan. Two ports of the mosque placed on a ridge look towards west and east directions. The western port is ornamented with inscriptions and geometrical patterns. The wall in the western side is covered with marble while the other facades are built by cut stones. The front facade, window borders and band wheels of the two domes are decorated with Seljuk tiles. |
