The church construction started in 1906 and was opened for public prayers in 1912. It is the biggest.church in Istanbul. St. Anthony's Church is Catholic Italian church of Franciscan sect. The church is built by architect Mongeri in Italian gothic style. Access is through its courtyard from the opening placed in between two blocks of apartments with six stories overlooking to Istiklal Street built with the aim of providing income for the church.Under management of Italian priests, the church is the most popular church of Latin-Catholic Christian people habiting in Istanbul who come together especially at Christmas and it has the biggest community having church in Istanbul.
