Yivli Minareli Mosque

Located within the citadel of Antalya, The Yivli Minare or the "Grooved Minaret" was built during the time of Seldjukian Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat in 1230. Considered as the symbol of the Antalya, Yivli Minare can be seen from throughout the city. Its cylindrical body with 8 grooves stands on a square shaped pedestal.
Ulu Cami situated west of the minaret is the oldest Islamic work to be found in Antalya. The inscription above the eastern gate of the mosque states that the mosque was built in 1373 on the remains of a Byzantine church. Yivli Minare forms a so called kulliye, or a building complex, along with the Ulu Cami, its medrese, mevlevihane and two tombs.
